What a trip! Due to an airline heat embargo, Dixon the Devon Rex could not fly directly to Wichita, Kansas. So he left his foster mom Tammy, who is a member of the Rexcue Railroad, and San Francisco at 6 a.m. on September 9, 2000. Dixon arrived in Kansas City at 8 p.m. after a layover in Detroit. He was met by Rexcue Railroad volunteer Lisa (above, right) with whom he spent the night. Lisa and Dixon left September 10, 2000 to meet his new mom Jamie (above, middle) in Topeka, Kansas, halfway to his new home with her in Wichita.

Lisa's story: "Just wanted to let everyone know that we successfully met up with Dixon's new mom, Jamie, from Wichita, in Topeka late this morning after we had a fun evening of cuddling with the wonderful little fellow last night. She was mesmerised by him and we were so happy to help him get to her. What a lovely young woman. I had my husband take photos of the momentous occasion to share and in case we do a Rexcue RR website of success stories! Gosh that felt good!"
